About The Course
Native hens, masked lapwings and ducklings might look tough and independent from day one — but when things go wrong, they need knowledgeable, confident carers.
This Wildlife Unplugged session is a small-group, informal chat led by experienced rehabilitator Robyn Gates, with Janelle and Natasha from Wildlife Network Tasmania supporting the session. Designed to be interactive and practical, everyone is encouraged to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from real-world scenarios.
We’ll explore:
- The unique needs of precocial species (mobile from hatching)
- Common rescue scenarios and when intervention is — and isn’t — needed
- Handling, containment and short-term care considerations
- Feeding basics, warmth, hydration and monitoring
- Common mistakes and welfare risks
- When and how to escalate to a vet or more experienced rehabilitator
This session is ideal for rescuers, new and developing carers, or anyone wanting to build confidence around these often-misunderstood species.
Wildlife Unplugged chats are relaxed, practical, and grounded in experience — a safe space to learn, ask, and connect with others who care about doing the right thing for wildlife.
