Greg Irons

Volunteer Non-Executive Director

Greg is a passionate wildlife advocate, social entrepreneur, and lifelong animal carer. As Director of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, Greg has transformed what was once a small tourist park into one of Tasmania’s leading forces for wildlife conservation, rescue, and rehabilitation.

At just 25, Greg took the reins of Bonorong with a clear vision: to create a sanctuary driven by purpose, not profit. Under his leadership, Bonorong established Tasmania’s first 24-hour statewide wildlife rescue service and the state’s first dedicated wildlife hospital. Today, the service responds to over 15,000 animals in need annually and continues to expand its reach and impact.

Greg’s journey began with hands-on wildlife care, giving him the insight to design a sanctuary that truly meets the needs of injured and orphaned animals. His commitment to positive change has earned him multiple awards, including Young Tasmanian of the Year, the Pride of Australia Medal for Environment, and the Southern Cross Young Achiever Award.

Despite his many accolades, Greg remains grounded in his mission: to give every animal a fighting chance and empower others to do the same. His work reflects deep care for Tasmania’s wildlife, and a belief in the power of community to create lasting change.
