Ian Vanderbeek

Volunteer Non-Executive Director

Ian is a strategic business leader and experienced non-executive director who brings calm clarity, risk oversight, and long-term vision to his governance roles. With a professional background in aviation, operations, and organisational culture, Ian has led teams through complex transitions and high-stakes environments—always with people and purpose at the core.

He has served on a diverse range of boards and is known for fostering positive board culture and building leadership succession, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He understands the vital importance of creating space for growth and sustainability and is passionate about empowering community-led organisations to deliver meaningful impact.

While new to Tasmania’s wildlife sector, Ian brings a deep respect for community conservation and is committed to learning from those with lived experience. His cross-sector insight, including work across international contexts, adds valuable depth to WNT’s strategic direction.

Ian believes that good governance supports not only operational excellence but also the heart and soul of an organisation. He joined WNT to support its mission, strengthen systems behind the scenes, and help ensure the carers, rescuers, and volunteers at the centre of wildlife care can continue their work with trust, clarity, and confidence.
