Janelle Olivia

Community Engagement Officer

Janelle is a passionate advocate for wildlife, community, and connection. With a background spanning wildlife rehabilitation, eco-tourism, grassroots activism, and entrepreneurship, she brings a rare blend of frontline experience and strategic vision to her role with Wildlife Network Tasmania.

Her journey began in eco-tourism, where she spent 15 years working across Tasmania and Western Australia, including time with Tasmania’s Parks and Wildlife Service and marine operations on the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef. These formative years cultivated a deep reverence for ecosystems and ignited her passion for public education and conservation.

Now an experienced wildlife rehabilitator and small profit-for-purpose business owner, Janelle knows the complex realities of balancing personal sacrifice with practical sustainability. She is dedicated to helping carers and rescuers feel supported, heard, and empowered to continue their work.

Janelle has volunteered aboard Sea Shepherd’s MY Steve Irwin, led community campaigns, and brings a bold, solutions-focused approach to her work. At WNT, she is focused on strengthening the wildlife rehabilitation sector through training, connection, and capacity-building.

She believes real change comes from a connected network of skilled volunteers and that supporting carers means supporting wildlife. Her work is grounded in empathy, action, and a deep commitment to Tasmania’s wildlife and the people who protect it.
