Dr. Peter Richardson

Volunteer Non-Executive Director

Peter is a zoologist and veterinarian with a lifelong passion for animal welfare and an innate curiosity about how systems and people work together. His career spans clinical practice, government roles, and research, with a strong focus on wildlife health, One Health principles, and biosecurity.

Peter brings deep technical knowledge alongside an ability to translate science into meaningful outcomes. From his work at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to teaching and mentoring junior veterinarians, Peter understands the real-world challenges and opportunities at the intersection of policy, education, and care.

He is particularly interested in strengthening connections between the veterinary and wildlife rehabilitation sectors. By improving communication, training pathways, and shared standards of care, Peter believes we can support both volunteers and the animals they serve more effectively.

As a board member at Wildlife Network Tasmania, Peter brings a steady, thoughtful presence. His governance style is inquisitive, respectful, and informed by evidence and empathy. He values open dialogue and collaboration and is deeply committed to advancing the goals of WNT in ways that are practical, inclusive, and grounded in care—for animals, for volunteers, and for the systems that connect them.
