Join wildlife veterinarian Dr Anne Fowler for a full-day workshop dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of Common Brushtail Possums.
Designed for wildlife rehabilitators wanting to build on their existing knowledge, this workshop will follow the rehabilitation journey from hand-rearing pinkies and growing joeys through to adult care, rehabilitation and release.
Anne will explore the social ecology and dietary requirements of Brushtail Possums and translate this into practical approaches to their care. The day will cover hand-rearing, housing and diet, rehabilitation and release, and common nutritional, infectious and traumatic conditions encountered in possums in care.
Rehabilitation and release practices will also be considered alongside published research on released animals, helping carers understand not only what we do in care, but how those decisions may affect animals after release.
There will also be an opportunity to explore the variety of local native browse available to Tasmanian carers and discuss suitable natural foods for possums in rehabilitation.
